Let me set the stage.
It was pre covid era and I was excited for my graduation.
Finally the time had come for me to wear that cap and gown and walk the podium for my people to be proud of me.
I was so excited.
So I went to the finance office to get cleared then they hit me with the news- my father had not paid the last semester fees like he had agreed with the finance department to do. We're talking 90k. And graduation was that weekend.
Let me tell you I felt my heart drop to my stomach. So you're telling me I won't get to walk the podium? I won't get my transcript so I can't apply for jobs? I will have to graduate the following year?
Mind you, my father had not told anyone. I knew he had been having financial issues, but the fact that I had to find out from the office?
So I call him and he says he doesn't have the money. That I should wait till next year.
I cried. I couldn't imagine having to let go of that excitement just like that.
I went home and locked myself in my room. I wanted to understand my dad but I was also very upset. Sasa 90k itatoka wapi in a few days?
I remember feeling like I lost hope and just went to sleep that night.
Graduation was in 4 days.
Next day passed, nothing. The other day passed, nothing.
THEN! The day before graduation, my dad calls me and tells me he got some money and cleared with finance and I should go get my graduation gown.
Eh! The way I screamed! I had lost hope but at the last minute ...... wow!
I went for my graduation and was extra happy because of how things worked out. Hiyo siku bash ilibash kama sijui nini.
Moral of the story? it might work out, it might not. But when it does? Best feeling ever!
