#14. The One About Change.

2 min read

I'm a curious person and I had a friend who is now an acquaintance.

We used to be so close. Her name was W (I think I'll just use her initials here).

In Uni, nothing could separate us. Our dynamic was - she led and I followed.

Looking back, I genuinely can say I was her lap dog.

In Uni I wasn't exposed to life and I easily trusted anyone, especially her. We were so happy, I used to look at her and think - damn she had her life figured out while I'm just cruising.

I loved her and she inspired me so much.

BUT our friendship had highs and lows. And one of the biggest lows was the fact that everything that mattered was all because of her mood. Let me explain.

When W was sad, her and I would not be okay.

When we were finishing school she would have long sad episodes and it really affected our friendship.

I then decided to talk to her about it and she lashed out at me as if I meant nothing to her. She said "leave I don't care", and well it was hard at first but I did that.

I left and lived my life.

A few years later we randomly meet at Naivas, which was so unexpected, and we exchange numbers again but this time - I've changed.

I'm no longer the lap dog, I fight my battles and I have a whole new identity.

Even typing this and remembering who I was,.... I'm so different now.

But W never changed. She still is the same person same character.

She invited me to her place and we talked and she spoke mostly about herself and her life. I loved how she hearing about how she had navigated life and accomplished a lot.

But her character is the same,

I chose not to keep contact and just be acquaintances because we do not align in a lot of things.

I choose to look at our friendship as what I needed in Uni but I've outgrown it and I love that for me.

She constantly tries to reach me but I'm trying not to be rude and maintain my distance.
